Q:
Why do I need a moisturizer if my skin is oily?
One of the most common skin types we see in Hawaii is an oily dehydrated skin. The key to caring for an oily skin is balance. Frequently, we hear "my skin feels good after I cleanse, I do not use any moisturizer because I am oily. My skin is very oily throughout the day." Because that person is not balancing their skin with a hydrator or moisturizer, the skin is dry and nice after cleansing but after about two or three hours it turns very oily. The oil glands are overcompensating for the lack of moisturizer on the surface and producing extra oil to hydrate the surface of the skin. With use of a proper hydrator, moisturizer, or sunscreen the skin will feel pH balanced and less oily.
