Get Help for Pain and Stress-Related Symptoms with Acupuncture

March 25 2019
If you suffer from pain, stress, headaches, or similar symptoms, acupuncture may be an effective complementary treatment for you. Most people have heard of acupuncture, but many don’t realize its benefits for pain and stress-related symptoms. Today, we’ll talk about what acupuncture is and how it can help relieve these symptoms.

Acupuncture is a Chinese Traditional Medicine technique that uses pressure on specific points of the body to relieve pain and tension. Although it uses needles to exert this pressure, the needles are extremely fine, thin enough to fit inside a needle used to draw blood, and the procedure is relatively pain-free. The technique was discovered over 2500 years ago in China and is one of the most commonly used Chinese Traditional Medicine technique in western countries.

When performed by a trained professional, acupuncture is extremely safe. The FDA regulates the equipment used by professionals to ensure that all needles are clean, sterile, and used only once.

The treatment can help reduce pain caused by several conditions, including back pain, headaches and migraines, joint pain, arthritis pain, and muscle spasms. People undergoing chemotherapy treatment can use acupuncture to help relieve symptoms caused by that treatment such as nausea and to help boost the immune system.

Research has shown that acupuncture can help fight age-related cognitive decline and can help reduce symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. In addition, expectant mothers may experience relief from pregnancy discomfort, anxiety, and stress.

Acupuncture works by balancing the energy flow in one of 14 channels, called meridians, in the body. This is done by inserting needles strategically in some of the 360 different points throughout the body to restore this energy flow and rebalance systems to relax muscles and relieve pain.

Your initial acupuncture session will last about an hour, with subsequent visits lasting 30 minutes. There is no downtime following the procedure, and you can go about your day. Consuming extra water throughout the day is recommended. The number and frequency of subsequent treatments will depend on your individual needs.
